Conference 1 – 9:00 am to 10:00 am

Elizabeth Fitzpatrick, Ph.D. Cert. LSLS  

Elizabeth Fitzpatrick is a Full Professor in Audiology at the University of Ottawa’s School of Rehabilitation Sciences and a Senior Scientist at the CHEO Research Institute. She has over 40 years of experience in the field of hearing health, having held clinical and management positions at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa and the Central Speech and Hearing Clinic in Winnipeg. Her research focuses on the epidemiology of childhood hearing loss, early intervention practices, and cochlear implant outcomes in children and adults. She served as Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (2012–2016) and is a board member of the Global Foundation for Children with Hearing Loss. In 2021, she received the Honours of the Academy Award from the Canadian Academy of Audiology.

Conference 2 – 10:15 am to 11:15 am 
Dr. Sam Daniel, MA in otolaryngology

Dr. Daniel is Professor of Otolaryngology and Pediatric Surgery at McGill University, where he holds the Hugh Hallward Chair in Pediatric Surgery and serves as Surgeon-in-Chief at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. A certified coach and passionate leader, he is Past-President of the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery and Senior CPD Educator at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Internationally, Dr. Daniel serves on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology and on the Scientific Committee of the European Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology. A CIHR- and NIH-funded clinician-scientist, he directs the McGill Otolaryngology Sciences Laboratory and has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles. His contributions have been recognized with multiple awards, including the Royal College CPD Provider Innovation Award and inclusion among Canada’s Top 40 Under 40.

In keeping with our theme, Then and Now, Dr. Daniel will discuss the evolution of treatment approaches, surgical procedures, and technological innovations for bone-anchored technology that have profoundly enhanced access to auditory information.

 

 

Conference 3 – 11:30 am to 12:30 pm

Karen Mclever-Lux MA/LSLS Cert. AVT

Karen McIver-Lux is a respected leader in the field of auditory-verbal therapy and deaf education. A certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS Cert. AVT), Karen has over 30 years of experience working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families. She has dedicated her career to helping children develop spoken language through listening and to supporting professionals and parents around the world.  

Karen has worked across clinical, educational, and advocacy settings, and is recognized internationally for her expertise, warmth, and commitment to inclusive, family-centered practices. She is a frequent speaker at conferences, a trusted consultant, and an experienced mentor for professionals pursuing certification in auditory-verbal therapy. Her contributions have shaped national and international initiatives that promote access to listening and spoken language for children with hearing loss.

Conference 4 – 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm

Donald M. Goldberg, Ph.D., CCC-SLP/A, LSLS Cert. AVT  

Donald M. Goldberg is a tenured professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the College of Wooster in Ohio, and a professional staff member of the Cochlear Implant Program at the Cleveland Clinic Head and Neck Institute. With over 40 years of experience, he is internationally recognized for his expertise in the evaluation and auditory rehabilitation of deaf and hard-of-hearing children and adults, particularly those using cochlear implants or hearing aids.  

He is the co-author of Educational Audiology for the Limited Hearing Infant and Preschooler: An Auditory-Verbal Program (1997) and has published numerous scholarly articles in specialized journals. In 2023, he developed the Test of Auditory Functioning (TAF), an innovative assessment tool designed for children aged 2 to 13, aimed at measuring their auditory skills in an individualized manner. M. Goldberg served as president of the AG Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (2012–2014) and of the AG Bell Academy of Listening and Spoken Language (2008–2010). He received the “Honors of the Association” award from AG Bell in 2018 and was named a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 2020.
