Early hearing care for lasting impact

Early hearing care for lasting impact

Our mission: Hearing – loud and clear!
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of hearing. Too often overlooked, hearing plays a fundamental role in a child’s language development.
A child with hearing loss may not perceive all the sounds of speech. As a result, they may start speaking later, have a limited vocabulary, or struggle to express themselves clearly. These communication challenges can lead to frustration, lower self-confidence, and difficulties in social interactions.
Early detection makes all the difference
At school, a child with undetected hearing loss may appear inattentive, distracted, or even oppositional. They might be seen as dreamy or as having learning difficulties—when in reality, the issue is that they simply can’t hear well. A misdiagnosis can delay proper intervention, causing unnecessary setbacks in development.
Too often, these signs are misunderstood, yet a simple hearing test could make all the difference.
We screen children’s vision before school—and rightly so. But why not do the same for hearing? A newborn hearing screening isn’t enough: like vision, hearing can change over time. That’s why it’s essential to check it again in early childhood.
Résonance Montréal offers multiple services to facilitate the early identification of hearing loss in children, and support for those families.

Auditory-verbal education is the only practice focused on auditory access and auditory training in order to develop spoken language.

The aftermath of hearing loss
As a parent of an infant recently diagnosed with hearing loss, you may be facing a wave of questions, decisions, and emotions — from grief and fear to uncertainty about what lies ahead. Please know this: you are not alone, and you are not expected to have all the answers right away.
Résonance Montréal is here to serve as a trusted transition resource for families navigating the early days following a diagnosis. We understand how overwhelming this time can be, and we are here to guide, support, and empower you as you begin this journey with your child.
Acknowledging the emotional impact of the diagnosis is an important step. Feelings of grief, denial, and anxiety are natural, and working through them creates space for constructive action and meaningful connection with your child. That’s where we come in.
A trusted resource after diagnosis
Through our early intervention and parent coaching services, we help families take the next steps — in partnership with hospitals, audiologists, and rehabilitation centers. Our team provides:

1
Ongoing parental guidance
2
Support in understanding and using hearing technology
3
Strategies to stimulate language and communication development
4
A bridge between health and education systems, to ensure continuity of care

Research shows that family involvement is one of the most powerful factors in a child’s success with early intervention. Parents who feel supported and engaged are more confident in communicating with their child — which fosters growth, connection, and learning.
At Résonance Montréal, we help parents become their child’s primary facilitators, every step of the way. You don’t have to do this alone — and with the right support, your child can thrive.

Parent coaching – support from the start
As part of our social mission, Résonance Montréal is proud to be a resource for families whose child has been diagnosed with hearing loss – whether through our hearing consultations, or referrals from hospitals and rehabilitation centers.
Following a diagnosis, our parent coaching services aim to support and guide families as early as possible, during a critical window for language and brain development.
We work closely with parents to:
- Provide strategies for daily language stimulation
- Ensure the proper use and fitting of hearing technology (hearing aids, cochlear implants)
- Help them become confident partners in their child’s learning journey

When health and education work hand in hand, children and families benefit from a strong, coordinated support system. Our goal is to give every child the best possible start — by helping parents feel informed, empowered, and supported from the very beginning.
